Bio

Mary Ann Henry is from Charleston, West Virginia but now lives in the Lowcountry of South Carolina where she writes Southern literary fiction described by Kirkus Reviews as ‘turning the archetype of the Southern woman on its head.’  She enjoys solo and adventure travel: wandered Ireland with a backpack in 2016, hiked Scotland’s West Highland Mountains and trekked the Himalayas  in 2017. She also enjoys “power gardening” in her backyard and morning walks along the Atlantic coast with her dog, Rio.  She teaches several writing workshops each spring and won national awards for teaching Creative Writing five years in a row from the National Alliance for Artists and Writers.

Her short story collection, Ladies in Low Places was awarded the First Place Category for Women’s Fiction/ Short Story Collections from Chanticleer Reviews, a Best Book of 2015 from Blue Ink Review and was a Featured Book of 2016 with the Pulpwood Queens, the largest book club in the country. She has recently completed her first novel and is at work on another.
